Shot Caller

We were eating at a Mexican restaurant when I overheard the party behind us talking. Lots stereotypes being thrown around for the three Spanish patrons: “Jo quiero” pronunciations as opposed to “Yo quiero”, “b”s in place of the “v”s, and so on.

But when the went back and forth between Spanglish and Spanish, I caught a full English sentence and heard a guy say “yea, that guy is a shot caller…”

Hold up. I have never heard that term used ever aside from a P Diddy song back in the late 90s. Shot caller? I was in awe. These Bronx Spanish folk caught me off guard.
